Ryan Shenvi (The Scripps Research Institute)

Ryan Shenvi is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Scripps Research. His research lies at the interface of catalysis, complex molecule synthesis, and structural biology, with a particular emphasis on concise chemical synthesis and the functional analysis of biologically active natural products.

The Shenvi Laboratory develops new synthetic strategies for accessing complex molecular architectures, often inspired by natural products with important biological activities. The group combines reaction development, total synthesis, and mechanistic design to address problems in chemical biology and medicinal chemistry.

He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Pennsylvania State University, where he conducted research with Professors Raymond Funk and John Desjarlais. He earned his Ph.D. from Scripps Research under Professor Phil S. Baran and carried out postdoctoral research with Professor E. J. Corey at Harvard University.

He began his independent career at Scripps Research in 2010 and was promoted to Professor in 2019. His work has established influential approaches to the synthesis and study of terpenoid and alkaloid natural products.
