Objective

Maintain friendship through chemistry and science

Our strong desire is to have an open dialog and maintain friendship through chemistry and science between the Asian and other countries. In addition, since the position of this conference is a place to learn and discuss the future direction of organic chemistry, invited speakers are not exclusively from the field of organic chemistry, but also in other fields, such as polymer science, chemical biology, material science, and others, so that attendees can view organic chemistry from a broad perspective of chemical science.

History

"the Bürgenstock Conference" in Japan

The conference was launched in May 2000 under the initiative and leadership of Professor Eiichi Nakamura, who returned from the Bürgenstock Conference. He conceived a new type of chemistry conference in the woods away from towns with a specific place in mind – Tateshina, a place where his wife, Yoko, and hisself had hosted for some time a private concert and party. The conference logo featuring “a crane on a tortoise” was designed by Shuzaburo Shibi representing our hope for the longevity of the conference
Prof. Shu Kobayashi took over the chairmanship of the conference from 2011 to 2023, and Prof. Oguri will assume the chairmanship of the conference from 2024.

Tateshina

48-hour conference

This meeting has been held in November in previous years, but was moved to June beginning in FY2023.
This year (2024), we are pleased to announce that the renewed Shirakaba Resort Ike-no-taira Hotel (located in Tateshina Town, Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture) will serve as the new venue for our event in June. We are delighted to invite you to enjoy a 48-hour conference on the shores of Lake Shirakaba, surrounded by the sky, mountains, and lake.
